Sony Music Is Repressing Four Out-of-Print Michael Jackson Vinyl Editions This October

Michael Jackson vinyl collectors are getting a break from paying inflated resale prices this month. Sony Music is bringing back four previously out-of-print Jackson vinyl releases on October 16: Thriller 25, Bad 25, the compilation album Scream, and the This Is It 10th Anniversary box set.

What’s Coming Back

According to listings confirming the reissue, all four releases are returning as existing catalog products rather than new editions with additional material. Thriller 25, originally released in 2008 to mark the 25th anniversary of Thriller, features the original album alongside a set of remixes and collaborations created for that anniversary. The 2LP edition returns October 16 at a listed price of $34.98.

Bad 25, first released in 2012 for Bad’s own 25th anniversary, expanded the original album with unreleased recordings and live material, including a recording of Jackson’s 1988 Wembley Stadium performance. The 3LP vinyl edition returns at $69.98.

Scream, a 2017 compilation built around a Halloween theme, brings together tracks like “Thriller,” “Ghosts,” “Is It Scary” and the title track “Scream,” along with a bonus mash-up. Its 2LP edition returns at $34.98.

The most significant of the four is the This Is It 10th Anniversary box set, an elaborate release originally issued in 2019 to mark a decade since This Is It, the concert documentary and companion album released after Michael Jackson’s death. The set has been unavailable for some time and carries a listed price of $479.99 for its return.

Why This Matters for Collectors

None of these four releases are new to Jackson’s catalog; all were previously issued and have simply gone out of print, in some cases for years. Resale listings for out-of-print Michael Jackson vinyl, including past pressings of Thriller 25, have regularly sold well above their original retail prices on secondary markets like Discogs, with some copies fetching well over $100. Bringing these specific titles back into general circulation gives collectors who missed the original releases, or don’t want to pay marked-up resale prices. a more straightforward way to complete their collections.

Part of a Bigger Year for Jackson’s Vinyl Catalog

This repress arrives during a year when Jackson’s physical music catalog has already seen unusual activity. Sony previously announced a 25th anniversary vinyl reissue of Invincible, Michael Jackson’s final studio album, also set for October, tied to UK National Album Day. Combined with the return of these four catalog titles, October is shaping up to be one of the busiest months in recent memory for Michael Jackson’s presence in vinyl retail, driven in part by a wider surge in collector and fan interest following the release of the “Michael” biopic earlier this year.

Why It Matters

For fans building out a physical collection, this reissue removes some of the friction — and cost — that comes with chasing rare pressings on the secondary market. It also reflects how actively Sony is continuing to manage and re-promote Jackson’s back catalog well over a decade after his death, keeping older anniversary editions in active circulation rather than letting them stay permanently out of print.
